Cross country skier on a snowy trail in woods

Minnesota Snowmobile and Cross Country Ski Trail reports for Becker County

Welcome to the Winter Wonderland Snowmobile Trails in Becker County of Minnesota! The snowmobile trails are open December 1-March 31, depending on snow conditions. Ride 250 miles of trails through prairie and secluded snow-laden forests where wildlife may be seen. Free trail maps may be picked up at destinations along the trail as well as the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce office at 700 Summit Avenue. Or, download city and county trail maps. Check back for a weekly trail report.

January 10, 2026
Although Detroit Lakes has had rounds of snow, there have also been days in the 30s that melt snow, especially in open areas. Some areas north of Detroit Lakes have received more snowfall and protected wooded areas have better snow conditions.

Audubon Trail- We are holding off on until we get more snow.
Some of the trails are not the greatest, and then some are okay, especially in the woods.
Remember to be careful on the trails, stay to the right, ride sober, use caution and cross lakes at your own risk, respect landowners, stay on the trail, do not trespass, and don’t litter! Contact ULTRA Trail Administrator Wayne Schlauderaff at 218-849-3069 with any questions or trail concerns.

Northwoods Trail Riders – January 8: The Northwoods Trail Riders trail system is fair for riding this weekend. The wooded areas to the north are holding most of the snow with a base of 2 – 3″. The open areas have little to no snow base with dirt showing in many sections. We have suspended grooming until the region receives additional snow, which means 6 – 8 inches. With this week’s warm temperatures, we are expecting the trails to melt even more. Hopefully Old Man Winter shows up soon! Brian Parsons 218-573-3631. Always use caution when crossing the lakes and rivers! Remember trail safety is everyone’s responsibility! Ride sober and respect the landowners – do not trespass or litter. Cross lakes, swamps and ponds at your own risk.

CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS: The Detroit Lakes Nordic Ski Club grooms trails during the winter season at Mountain View Rec Area, East Frazee, Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge, Pine Lake, Pickerel Lake and Detroit Mountain Rec Area. See their website for maps and grooming updates.

Skaters Waltz can be skied in either direction. See Maplelag’s trail map and trail updates during cross country ski season.
DETROIT MOUNTAIN: During the winter season, Detroit Mountain trails are open for cross country skiing, fat biking and snowshoeing. See their website for updates.

CROSS COUNTRY SKI UPDATES, January 10, 2026 from Detroit Lakes Area Nordic Ski Club
Mt View – groomed Sat., Jan. 3rd, have had walkers over there up to “B” Loop. It will get freshened up this weekend.
Tamarac Refuge – groomed yesterday, Jan. 9th – excellent trails! Pine Lake Road skimpy in some places but no gravel showing.
Pickerel Lake – groomed two weeks ago, and not enough snow to groom it again, so we are leaving it as-is. Good skiing overall – Logging Road, East and West Perimeter trails have all been groomed.
Detroit Mountain – groomed frequently, and is fantastic skiing, East and West Loops, Lighted Trail, and base of Tubing Hill. Trail passes are at: https://www.detroitmountain.com
Dunton Locks County Park – Kent groomed it last Tuesday, Jan. 6th, and is in great shape!
Frazee Trails – groomed Thursday, Jan. 1st. Snow is skimpy in some places, and we need more snow to groom again. Trails are in reasonably good shape.

Rainbow Resort and Maplelag – Check out their websites for trail updates. Rainbow https://www.rainbowresort.com is free, and Maplelag https://www.maplelag.com has on-line trail passes.
