Water Carnival in Detroit Lakes, MN

A week long celebration of summer

When it comes to celebrating summer, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota takes its time. The Jaycee-sponsored Northwest Water Carnival lasts a delicious week or more in the heart of summer.
Due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) the Northwest Water Carnival is cancelled in 2020. Plan to return for more than a week of fun July 9-18, 2021.

An Admiral - a Jaycee member - resides over the extravaganza scheduled for July 9-18, 2021.

Do you love to build sand castles or ships? There's a competition for you. Tough enough to eat chili in July? Then the Carnival's chili cookoff is calling you.

Water fights, kids' games, bed races, music and food and more food - the Northwest Carnival has it all for you.

An annual favorite is Bash on the Beach, where you and your friends have a blast with live bands on the shores of Little Detroit Lake. The Parade of the Northwest is held on the last Sunday of the Carnival, July 18.  The parade attracts thousands of people stretching a mile along Washington Avenue and West Lake Drive. The Fourth of July may be over, but in Detroit Lakes, the fun is just getting started.
