On behalf of the City Council and all of the citizens of Detroit Lakes I would like to extend a warm welcome to our City. We are located just 40 minutes east of Fargo-Moorhead in beautiful Minnesota lake country. With the combination of adjacent prairie, abundant woodlands and lakes, it makes an ideal place to live and work. For over 125 years people have chosen to visit the 412 lakes area.
In addition to the wonderful setting, Detroit Lakes features a top-rated school system, excellent medical facilities, adequate housing and numerous park and recreational facilities.
Our economic base is solid and stable with a good mix of manufacturing, tourism, agriculture and retail. In addition, we are a regional hub for many service type businesses. Detroit Lakes has achieved the status of "Minnesota Star City" due to our many economic development programs. One of our business owners who started in the 1970's once said "I decided to locate my business where I vacationed". If you are thinking of locating or relocating your business, why don't you check out Detroit Lakes? You won't be disappointed with the economic opportunities, our ample work force and the quality of life.
Detroit Lakes is the home of the Northwest Water Carnival, WE Fest Country Music Festival, the Pine to Palm Golf Tournament and the Polar Fest. In fact, our community averages one special event per week throughout the year! One of my favorite spots is the 105,000 sq. ft. Detroit Lakes Cultural & Community Center. The DLCCC features opportunities for swimming, physical activities, including two gyms and an 800 seat theatre for cultural events. Summer is extra special in Detroit Lakes with numerous lakes, golf courses, athletic facilities and our famous mile long City beach. AND new in 2014 is Detroit Mountain Recreation Area which offers downhill and cross-country skiing, mountain biking and an amazing lodge. With the many attractions offered by Detroit Lakes, I encourage you to take some time to explore our City.
If there is anything I can do to help you become better acquainted with Detroit Lakes, please give me a call or an email.
