Detroit Lakes, Minnesota is home to Polar Fest – a celebration embracing the winter season, each February. From outdoor activities to warm dinners and fireworks; there is something for everyone!
One of the events to kick off Polar Fest is the Poles ‘N Holes Fishing Derby ! Come to the north side of Little Detroit Lake and find yourself a lucky hole to fish for big prizes! The gates open at 9 am and fishing begins at Noon on Saturday, February 8. Be sure to check back to make sure ice conditions are conducive to holding the derby. Another February 8 event is the Great Polar Race – register by January 31 to get in on the fun. Be sure to check out the ice sculptures and activities in the Detroit Lakes City Park.
Feeling a bit daring or zany? You might like to take the famous Polar Fest Plunge into Detroit Lake! Or, perhaps you’d prefer to cheer on those who take the plunge. The Polar Fest Plunge takes place 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 14!
Of course, there will be lots of food for your winter appetite! Your entire family is invited to get outdoors to enjoy Polar Fest fun! How about taking in some ice tee golfing or a youth fishing derby on Detroit Lake? Try skiing or snowboarding with Polar Pete at Detroit Mountain. Loads of outdoor Minnesota fun on Saturday, February 15 when you take part in the 5K Freeze Your Buns Run, view the spectacular frozen fireworks at the city beach at 7 pm followed by the Polaritaville Dance!
